I love ALO -- they are probably my favorite band around right now! I have been listening to them all day and was wondering if anyone listens to any bands that are very similar musically -- really good dance stuff like they do with cool lyrics, etc.?

Let me know?

If you like ALO you should check out Chris Joyner - there are two of them around so follow the link below:

www.myspace.com/chrisjoyner

He sounds so much like Zach on "Heavies" it's scary.

tea leaf green has more of a rock sound than ALO, but i would say they are similar in their approach of mixing song writing with jamming. great american taxi is more bluegrass oriented but the same argument applies. i can't really think of any bands that play the same spaced out floating funky kind of stuff that ALO has going.

Blue Turtle Seduction is jamgrassy with good lyrics and a lot of fun; i was noticing that their mando jams reminded me a little of the guitar picking in ALO's Koloamana which i just heard on archives where bts can be found too.

i'm getting psyched to see these guys next week!

check out THE BREW @ myspace.com/bluefungusbrew (http://www.myspace.com/bluefungusbrew)or www.thebrew.biz (http://www.thebrew.biz)

These guys are from Massachusetts. They're blowing up on the jam band scene.

As Bill Graham once said about the Grateful Dead "Not only are the best at what they do, their the only ones who do what they do" that last part is true with ALO musically speaking that is. "Their the only ones who do what they do" Is there any jambands out there with a one lead guitarist playing acoustic guitar & lap steel? Soulful lyrics? Coolest cover songs? Funk workouts?

I'm sorry folks there's no bands similar to ALO otherwise I'de be running all around California to see there shows too! There are other good and upcoming bands just not similar.

Upcoming bands I like are Tea Leaf Green & Ryan Montbleau Band. Oldies but goodies include new Allman Brothers Band since Derek Trucks is one of the best slide guitarist alive and seems to be channeling Dwayne Allman.

It might be worth checking out The Iguanas. They are a New Orleans band that has been around since the late 80s. iTunes just got their first two CDs, which until recently were hard to find -- but don't trust the reviews, one is totally about another band. The Iguanas are another band that is hard to categorize. Great dance/party music, talented musicians, but not exactly like ALO. Some songs in Spanish, some English, some a mix. First CD, The Iguanas, second is Nuevo Boogaloo. Some songs to check out -- Para Donde Vas, Oye Isabel, Boom Boom Boom, My Girlfriend is a Waitress, Arrimate, Sugar Cane, Un Avion, You Killed My Buzz. If you get a chance to see them, you will be hooked -- they have a loyal following, but you can still see them in an intimate setting.

And my other humble opinion is, if you like ALO, you should not forget Van Morrison. Much of Van's older stuff is hard to get, I have been buying used CDs and some of the songs you never heard are truly amazing. One that makes me think of ALO every time I hear it is, When That Evening Sun Goes Down, you could totally believe that Zach is playing the piano. (that song is on Tupelo Honey)

OK, talking to myself here.....my nephew just turned me on to www.pandora.com. Amazing website. You can create a radio station (streaming music) based on your favorite artist. They have people with music backgrounds who analyze music based on 400 or so attributes, the Music Genome Project, so they give you artists who are musically similar to any musician you select. Fascinating.....

Try checking out the website pandora.com. You choose the band you want to hear and they play similar things. It's a pretty neat website and learns what you like and don't like. I'm hooked.
