Greetings aloforum from zurich, switzerland!
well a few weeks of keeping my mouth shut about this pending tour has bottled up a whole lot of energy about this mini europe tour alo is throwing. i know there is a kid on this list from england- are you attending both shows? we have a wedding later that week, so we will only be able to make it to amsterdam, though a few friends of mine in the UK will be attending.
is anyone considering making the trek to amsterdam? i promise if you do, we'll rock it like there's no curfew (cause there ain't in one in the 'dam!).
the paradiso is by far my favorite venue of its kind in the world. the main stage that is, the side stage is a shoebox type venue, a'la the fillmore, but about 1/3 the size. it is located in a great part of town and has an amazing history- it used to be a church for religious people, now it is a church for musical people. as well, during WWII, it was used to hide the jews from the germans. heavy history for sure.
last time we at the paradiso, we saw meshelle n'degeocello, in the same side room that alo is playing. about 2/3 of the way through the show, a strange vibe filled the air, a really heavy vibe. we were dancing, but we could still feel it behind us, didn't know what it was but it involved some VERY LARGE black men in leather coats, none of whom were under 6 foot 3. after the show we were backstage and up comes iron mike tyson and his entourage. he travels with no less than 3 bodyguards as many people like to taunt him or pick fights with the champ.
he sat down at the table next to us where meshelle was, and proceeded to smoke a handful of joints. our efforts at passing some his way were thwarted as his entourage quickly puffed them down to a nub before they got to him. quality control? perhaps.
ok, that's my vignette for day. again, i "highly" recommend making the journey to the dam for alo's premiere solo performance in this great city, and their 1st gig at the paradiso. hopefully within a year or 2, we'll be in the big room, with floor to ceiling stained glass overlooking the canals, and amazing white painted woodwork throughout.
